UNITS® Moving and Portable Storage of Southeast Massachusetts is stepping up to help two local charities who help families in desperate need of a roof over their head by donating storage containers.

Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together Boston both build and/or repair homes for families who otherwise could not afford a safe place to live.

Topher Fearey, owner and operator of UNITS of Southeast Massachusetts volunteered for Habitat as a business school student and the experience stuck with him.

“I remember leading a team of volunteers on a very important project. We were installing a ramp for a disabled woman who couldn’t get in and out of her house safely,” recalled Fearey. “Her reaction was something I’ll never forget as she couldn’t believe what we “kids” had just done for her. She was so appreciative and kind.”

That experience made it easy to say, “Yes!” when Rebuilding Together Boston reached out and asked Fearey if UNITS Moving and Portable Storage could help. The organization helps low-income families make critical home repairs through donations. The family who will benefit from Fearey’s generous donation has a very heartbreaking situation says Janice Walker, Executive Director of Rebuilding Together Boston. A child with cerebral palsy is living in this home with two parents who also have severe medical issues. Not only is the organization rebuilding the home into a safe space, but they are also calling in an occupational therapist and architect to ensure bathing and navigating the home is simple.

“When I heard what this family was going through, I wish I could have done more,” says Fearey. “I’m just glad I was able to use my business to contribute to this project.”

Walker says without the UNITS storage container donation they would have had no place to store the family’s belongings while their home was undergoing major renovations for life saving heat and electric.

“We are so grateful for Topher’s generosity. It’s caring and generous businesspeople like him that make what we do possible,” says Walker.

Two Habitat for Humanity homes are being built on Whiting Street in Hingham and will be dedicated to two deserving families in the spring.

Fearey donated two containers to this project for the storage of lumber, tools, and materials. Beth Lyons, Executive Director of Southshore Habitat for Humanity, says the organization is so grateful for the donations to help keep costly materials locked away.

“Materials are so incredibly expensive these days, we don’t want them to disappear. That’s why these locked containers are so crucial,” says Lyons. “We can rest at night knowing all the supplies are accessible and safe.”

Volunteers are currently on site working to help house two Boston area families in need and Fearey could not be more proud to be part of the effort.
